Karin is most recognized for her  signature work – the Northern Lights  Series  and works from her Tree of Life series. The Northern Lights painting – “In My Back Yard” was awarded People’s Choice Award in a prestigious Alberta show. When a subject interests me, I explore it with a sense of intuition that melds the external world with my inner vision “ Born and raised in Calgary, Karin spent much of her youth hiking, camping and canoeing in the Rocky Mountains.  She continues to be  inspired by the beauty of this environment.  Her work  reflects the textures, colours and impressions provided by nature’s gifts. While enjoying a career in advertising, Karin began to explore the world of fine art.  She has spent years studying calligraphy, decorative painting, assorted fibre arts, drawing, book binding , mixed media and most extensively watercolour. Karin’s favourite paintings involve the viewer by  inviting them to imagine their way through the image.  By manipulating water and pigment, interesting passages surface.  To her this is what watercolour is all about.
Mixed media, collage and a variety of experimental techniques are also an important part of Karin’s artistic craft.  While the basis for her artistic expression is rooted in the genre of Canadian Landscape painting, Karin is continually evolving her artistic style and modes of expression.“A variety of artistic ventures’ enhance one another.  The more creative venues I pursue, the more  I like to combine them.  For example, I have used crochet patterns to design stencils and may start with these stencil designs ,  add calligraphy strokes , collage papers,  inks or any variety of media in my paintings.”Karin has been involved in group shows and her work is exhibited in several galleries.  Works from the “Tree of Life” and “Northern Lights” series are included in collections in Canada and around the world. Karin currently resides in the Bragg Creek area of Southern Alberta,  she is painting, teaching and enjoying expression through art.
